FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything about privacy, limits and formats.

Is BayConvert really free?

Yes. Every tool on the site is free to use with no limits on how many files you convert, no paid tier and no trial period. There are no watermarks on anything you download.

Do I need to create an account?

No. There is no sign-up, no email required and no login. Open a tool, add your file and download the result.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

For most tools, no. Image, video, audio, OCR, archive, spreadsheet and data conversions all run entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly and Canvas, so the file never leaves your device. Seven PDF editing tools are the exception: merge, split, compress, rotate, add page numbers, watermark and images-to-PDF send the file to our server because they need server-side PDF libraries. Those files are processed in memory, returned to you immediately and never written to disk or stored.

What file formats can I convert?

PDF, EPUB, JPG, PNG, WebP, SVG, HEIC, MP4, MOV, AVI, WebM, MP3, WAV, M4A, DOCX, XLSX, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML and ZIP, among others. There are 52 tools grouped into PDF, Image, Video & Audio, Documents, OCR, Data & Dev and Archive.

Is there a file size limit?

Browser-based tools are limited by your device's available memory rather than a fixed cap, and we show a warning above 100 MB (200 MB for video) since very large files can be slow. The server-side PDF tools accept files up to 50 MB each, and up to 30 files per batch.

Will there be a watermark on my file?

No. Output files are clean. The only watermark you will ever see is one you add yourself with the Watermark PDF tool.

Does BayConvert work on a phone or tablet?

Yes. The site is built to work on mobile browsers, and because most conversions happen locally you can convert files on your phone without uploading them anywhere.

Do I need to install any software?

No. BayConvert runs in your web browser. There is nothing to download or install, and it works on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS.
